"E Rain ruined the open-air dance arranged to celebrate the silver jubilee of King Christian of Denmark, forcing toancers to hold celebrations in hotels and cafes. Nevertheless, the city was illuminated, there being candles in every window in accordance with Danish tradition. The King motored through the city during the morning, and was moved to tears by the enthusiasm of his subjects. King Christian is Europe’s tallest monarch, and his democratic indifference to ceremony Is indicated by the fact that every day he cycles through the city. His popularity is great, and -the capital is crowded. There are 80,000 visitors, including many foreigners, and £lOO,OOO has been collected for presents for him. Many Royalties are among the guests, the most prominqA being King Haakon of Norway, King Christian’s brother, who has reigned longer than any other European King, and King Gustaf of, Sweden, the oldest reigning monarch.
