WAR TIME PLAN
BOMBING OF LONDON GERMANY’S ZEPPELINS Bank Of England To Have Been Destroyed Press Association —Copyright. Received May 10, 10.15 a.m. Cherbourg, May 9. Captain Lehmann’s wife was not aware 'of her husband's death in the Zeppelin Von Hindenburg disaster until she arrived from Berlin. It is recalled that Captain Lehmann —he was the former master of the Von Hindenburg—in his book, “The Zeppelins,” revealed that he was the designer of a war-time plan for twenty Zeppelins to rain six thousand bombs on London, especially the Bank of England, in the hope of paralysing the economic system. “The plan never reached the Kaiser,” Captain Lehmann said. “None of us desired to he a party to it, as it would have involved at least a million women and children. We did not desire to destroy without necessity a city’s precious possessions.” “When raids were authorised later, there was an express stipulation to avoid Buckingham Palace, the Abbey, and St. Paul’s Cathedral.”
