Slum Clearance in England (British Official Wireless). Rugby, May 2. The Minister of Health, Sir Kingsley Wood, to-day open d a blbjck of flats at Bristol, which arc a new experiment in slum clearance. Flints are being provided to meet, th 3 needs of small families and elderly single people who are unable, owing to their work, do move to ou'lying estates and who do not require full-sized houses. The families who will occupy the flats are persons of very small mernns, and in this scheme the Bristol Corporation i. l ? tackling the hard core of some of the lower paid workers in the slums. The rents of the smallest flats are as low as four shillings la w-ek, inclusive of rates, water and electric light, and include some furniture for tenants. Sir Kingsley said the greatest contribution that had be n made by the present generation to tociu 1 improvement and security had been in respect of belter housing for th peoples
