’PLANE CRASHES IN BAY

Australian Airman’s Death Press Association —Copyright. Melbourne, March 23. Pilot-Officer E. J. Eagerty, of the Royal Australian Air Force, was drowned late this afternoon when hie Bristol Bulldog aeroplane dived into Port Phillip Bay, three miles off the Air Force depot at Point Cooke. Mr Eagerly was flying solo and was engaged in shooting practice at an aerial target towed by a Wapiti plane. He dived at the tlairget and the Bulldog teiled to recover. It struck tne sea and sank immediately. The pilot of the Wapiti saw' the crash and returned to the scene, but there was no sign of the pilot. A reconnoitring plane later saw the Bulldog on the seabed in 30 feet of water. The Harbour Trust sent a hopper barge to savage the plane. Mr Eagerty joined the Air Force in July, 1934, and completed his training as a pilot officer in July, 1935.
