Social and Personal. Mrs. Bass (Dargaville) is staying with Mrs. J. Cresswell Broadway North. * * * Mrs G. L. Hall and Miss M. Hall left by the express last night on a visit to Mat am ata. * * * Miss Margaret Wheelan has arrived from Wellington to visit her sister, Mrs D. J. Malone. * * * Mrs Kenneth King, of Auckland, it' visiting Stratford, and is staying with her mother, Mrs A. J. Harper. *• * * Mrs. E. S. Rutherfurd entertained some young people during the weekend to meet her sister, Miss M. Hawkin (Mokoia). * * * Mrs. Bennett (New Plymouth), who has been staying with her daughter, Mrs. Wood, left for an extended tour of the South Island. She was accompanied by her daughter, Mrs. Leadbeater.
Mrs W. J. Spence, Olivia Street, entertained members of the Portland Auction Bridge Club this afternoon. Her drawing-room looked very bright and attractive, with large African and Michaelmas dr '.lsles, and she was wearing a becoming black crepe de chine frock. Those playing were: Mesdames A. Coleman, L. Furrie, L. Jardine, P. D. Jefferies, A. W. Budge, J. Cresswell, R. Curtis.
