Australians Give Exhibition at Auckland. Press Association—Copyright. Auckland, March 22. Considered to comprise one of the strongest teams, the Commonwealth has produced, and outstanding contenders for Davis Cup honours, the Australian tennis players, J, H. Crawford, V. B. McGrath, A. K. Quist and J. Bromwich, who arrived at Auckland by the Niagara to-day. delighted a crowd of about 300 with a series ■>f brilliant exhibition matches at the Stanley Street courts today

The team, which is en route to the United States to play in the American zone, is accompanied by Mr C. E. Sproule as manager. Bon voyage and a prosperous adventure in the Davis Cup contest was wlthed the team by the GovernorGeneral, Viscount Galway, who as patron of the Auckland Associ'ation extended a welcome to the visitors during an interval in the play. He thanked the visitors for taking part in the exhibition matches and assured them that their performances in the Davis Cup contest Would be of intense interest to New Zeallanders. Mr Sproule said the team would do its very best and expressed appreciation of the welcome. Salient features of the exhibition play were the polithed anrl confident, methods of Crawford, the vicious backhand volleys of McGrath, the subtlety of Quist and the eagerness and unorthodoxy of Bromwich, * It was a highly exhibition of tennis attack and defence. With players earning frequent applause for finely-angled shots and placements of more than ordinary excellence. Bromwich attracted considerable attention when he shaped up to Quist ill the first singles, partly in view of the success that has attended his efforts during his comparatively short career in first-class tennis, but principally because of the unusual methods he employs'. He plays his forehand shots with both hands gripping the racquet. He serves right, hand and uses his left in pl'aying what would ordinarily be a backhand shot. Results l are: Singles. Quist beat Bromwich, 4 —6, u —2, 6—4. Crawford beat McGrath, 7—5, 7—5. Doubles. Bromwich and Quist beat Crawford and McGrath, 6—2, 6—2, 4—6, I—6,1 —6,
