SERVICES APPRECIATED.
TARANAKI RUGBY Retirement of Union Secretary. Appreciation of the services of Mr S. E. Nielson as secretary to the Taranaki Rugby Union during the past 13 years was expressed at a meeting of the management comlmiL tee, held at Stratford last night. Tf>c meeting confirmed the appointment of Mr Wilfrid G. Watts at his sue cessor. "It is with extreme regret that I tender my resignation as secretary to the Union on the eve of my departure tor Sydney to commence practice ot his profession in that city,” wrote Mr Nielion. “My association v f Jth Rugby, since taking on the position of secretary to your Union thirteen years ago, have been very pleasant ones and moat interesting to me. I have been privileged to meet and mlake some very fine friends, and I assure you that I value these associations very greatly." “We have all been aware that this has been coming and recognise that the position is inevitable, said Hon. Jas. McLeod, chairman of the cominitteel, in moving that. Mr Nielson’s resignation be accepted with regret, and that appreciation ot his services be recorded. During the period that Mr Nielson had been secretary his services had been invaluable, said Mr McLeod. There was nothing hapb<zard about his methods and he hnd evolved a very fine system. He wished Mr Nielson every success in his new sphere.
Other members of the committee also added their tributes to Mr Nielson’s services to the Union. Mr Nielson, in responding, thanked the management committee for their assistance. In any decision he W had to make they had always stood behind him. His associations Had always been most pleasant and it would be a big break to sever his connection.
