Mr. Norman Uniacke, who has been vis.ting hh. parents, Mr and Mrs F. P. Uniacke, left this morning by the express on his return to Westland. The death is announced from GreymouLh oi Mr S. W. S. Strong, who was recently appointed first engineer in charge of the Dominion mining schemes since the amalgamation unci qr me Labour Department. Mr Strong, who was the' son of Colonel W. J. Strong, of Dunedin, was educated at the Otago Boys’ High School and at the University of Otago School of Mines. He graduated in 1924 and later was employed as patrolling geologist in the Taranaki oilfields and had charge of the gold-prospecting scheme under the Unemployment Board on the West Coast. Recently he underwent an operation. His age was 37, and he is survived by his widow and two young children.
Mr S. G. Holland, M.P., who is to address a public meeting in Stratford on Tuesday night., will arrive here that morning from New Plymouth, where he is speaking at a party meeting on Monday. II is now making a tour of parts of the Waitomo and Wa.imarino electorates and from Stratford will go to Wanganui and Palmerston North.
