THEFT CHARGE.

Youth Placed On Probation For One Year. For theft of an electric motor valued at £3 10-s,a youth, whoso name was suppressed, was placed on probation for a term of one year when he appeared in the Stratford Police Court this morning. Accused, who was represented by Mr N. 11. Mots, pleaded guilty and elected to be dealt with summarily. Sergeant C. M. Anniss said that accused was an apprentice at an engineering works and Was 18 years old. The motor was taken from a wattling machine aud taken to his homo. Mr Moss said the case was an unfortunate one. The boy had a good upbringing and it was probable that being of a mechanical turn of mind he was tempted to experiment with the motor. Counsel understood that his employer was prepared to take him back. » The Magistrate (Mr W. H. WoodWard, S.M.) said he was sorry to see a young man endangering his career by a dishonest act. As it was a first offence he would place accused on probation for 12 months and agree to ■ counsel's request for suppression of • name.
