A husband and wife were killed and two others were injured, one gravely and the other seriously, as the result of a shocking motor accident which occurred this evening on the main north road about 12 miles from Masterton. The victims were: Killed.—Leslie William Sharman, cycle dealer, Masterton; Margaret Sharman, his Wife. Injured: Charles Herbert Howes, carpenter, Masterton; condition very grave. B. Waters, Masterton; extensive injuries, condition fairy serious. The accident occurred on a bend on the road, the car, wnich was driven by Mr Sharman, colliding with a transport lorry heavily laden with fruit. The car left Masterton about 5.30 p.m. on its way to Palmerston North, Mr and Mrs Sharman occupying the front seat. Though there were no eye witnesses, it appears that the car, a heavy sedan model, struck the lorry on the side just past the cab, tore awfay much of the woodwork of the lorry’s side and scattered apples over a wide area. The full force of the impact was felt on the driver’s side of the car, which was reduced to a mangled mass, Mr Sharman was killed outright and his wife lived for only a few minutes.
