SEEKING KNOWLEDGE.

Maori Youth’s Request To High School Board.

Last year a young Maori, resident in the Makahu district, made representations to the Stratford Technical High School Board to secure tuition

at the school, but apparently the regulations would not allow the granting of a free place. In his letter he indicated that he had saved inoney from his labour and was prepared to make some sacrifice, and while the

Board was sympathetic, it could not give him the assistance required.

Undaunted, he has asked the Board to give him the benefit of correspondence leaching, and it was decided at last night’s meeting of the Board to request him to interview the principal, Mr A. 11. R. Amcss. Before the Board was a letter in which he mentioned

his ambition to enter the medical profession. His excellent handwriting

and his grammatical letter were commended, but primarily influencing members was his persistent effort to secure higher education and better his lot in life.
