Italy Speeds Up Army Promotions.
Press Association—Copyright. Received 10.30 a.m. Rome, February 9. Cabinet has decided to increase the number of long-ser-vice officers “in the light of new necessity,” and to speed up the promotion of young officers showing ability. It is considered that there are too many elderly officers and they will be ruthlessly axed. The decree refers to the need for active and constant vigilance on the frontiers. It adds that the present and future needs of the Italian Empire have decidedly altered army requirement js.
