PROVINCIAL TENNIS.
TARANAKI TEAM. Selection After Match At Eltham. The final selection of the Taranaki tennis team was made after the North South match held at Eltham on Saturday. With the exception of Strongbom, who demonstrated his superiority over A. Dickie, with a icomfortable 'wiin i|n straight sets, the northern men were outclassed and the series to South 13 matches to 10.
Heavy courts and a strong wind adversely affected play during a greater part of the afternoon and a shower of rain after 6 o’clock spoiled the final games in the combined doubles. The match between E. Dickie and Miss Graham and Loibb and Miss Wylde was abandoned.
The team announced at the conclusion of play, which will represent Taranaki against Wanganui at Hawera on Saturday is: Men: J. J. McCarthy (South), C, H. Strombom (North), A. Dickie (South), A. Dickie (South), C. Nicholls (South), B. Clifford-Jones (South). Women: Miss Bright (South), Miss Graham (South), Miss Wylds (North), Miss Taylor (North), Miss Dickie (South), Miss Wallon (North).

Tennis Strain. A striking tribute to the skill of John Bromwich, Henry Lindo, Jim Gilchrist, and Arthur Huxley, was paid by a State tennis selector, A. V. Membrey, at a recent meeting of the New South Wales Hardcourt Association at Sydney. In making his managerial report on the tour of Queensland, and briefly mentioning a junior coaching scheme, Mr Membrey said that the four juniors were undoubtedly a Davis Cup team of the future, and that they should worthily follow in the footsteps of Crawford, Quist, and company. “The standard of tennis in Queensland' is high,” added Mr Membrey, “yet these boys astounded critics and players by their skill. However, one thing is certain, and that is that they will have to be carefully, guarded against overstrain and too much tennis. 1 am sure both the New South Wales Lawn Tennis Association and the ,Hardcourt Association will see that this does not happen.”
