VINES BEATS PERRY
TWO SETS ONLY. HARDWOOD FLOOR. American Had Everything His Own Way. Press Association —Copyright. New York, January 26. (At College Park, Maryland, H. E. Vines defeated F. .1. Perry, 6 —4, 6—2, in a match that was shortened to two sets by a blazing service and terrific smashes by Vines, who, apparently at the peak of his form, is too much for Perry, who was handicapped by the use of a hardwood floor instead of canvas. Hardwood helped the bounce of the American’s fast ball, slowing Perry’s coverage of the court. Vines took three of the first four games to love, Perry whining the third game. Perry then won the fifth, sixth and seventh. Vines took the eighth on his own service and broke through Perry’s service in the ninth. He scored three aces in the. tenth, winning the set. Vines had everything bis own way in the second set and stood two games to love. Near the end Perry just shook his head and made no effort to reach some of Vines’ feiTilfic shots.
