HAIRBREADTH ESCAPE

Motor-cyclist Dashes In Front Of Express.

Accelerating in a desperate swerve a motor-cyclist carrying a pillion rider avoide dbeing crashed into the New Plymouth express at the Regan Street crossing last night, by the narrowest of margins.

When the cycle turned from Broadway into Regan Street the alarm bell was already operating and two cars were waiting for the train to pass. He ignored this, however, and reached the line with the train, travelling at a fast rate, practically on top of him. Only the speed with which he accelerated and swerved saved him and his passenger from death or serious injury.
