Rivers Continue To Rise In U.S.A. Press Association —Copyright. Chicago, Jan. 19. Hundreds of families were homeless and many were rescued by boats as the rivers continued to rise today. Schools are closed and many parts are flooded areas. Levees have broken in many places and army engineers are busy strengthening others. The main streets of several cities are under a foot or more of water, forcing “residents to travel in boats. The weather which is near zero in some sections, has increased the suffering and complicated relief work.
