Detroit, Jan. 19. i It is announced that Mr. Sloan, j president of the General Motors Cori poration, will confer with Miss Frances Perkins, Secretary of Labour, and Governor Murphy to-day at Washington in an effort to arrange a joint conference of union and cooperation officials to settle the motor strikes. Under i the agreement the 350 men laid off i last will return to work and the plant will be reopened to-morrow. The union alleged that the lay-offs were due to union activities, but the , company executives denied this and sold it was due- to a lack of material. This is the second time the Ford ■ executives have intervened to fettle ! strikes in plants with which the com- | pany deals. Participants in the ■ Washington conference refused to i comment upon it, but indicated that i they were no nearer an agreement.
