“We have short titles for Acts of Parliament. I think we should have short titles for some of these offences,” said Mr J. H. Luxford, S.M., in the Magistrate’s Court, Wellington, yesterday, when a motorist was charged with a breach of the regulations. The charge, as read out by the clerk, was as follows: You are charged that’ on the 27th day of December, 193 G, at Wellington, being the driver of a motor vehicle, to wit, a motorcar, on a road, to, wit, Hall Street, you did leave the driver’s seat of such vehicle without first having brought the vehicle to a standstill, and without first having engaged the retaining brake, and without having taken other precautions proper in the circumstances to ensure the vehicle would not move whilst not under proper control, and without having placed the vehicle, if on a grade, in such a position that if set in motion while not under proper control, it would run toward and remain against the kerb or other corresponding obstruction at the near side of tha road. “Just what is he charged with?” asked the Magistrate. The Clerk: With insecurely parking his motor-car in Hall Street.
