SINGAPORE DOCK.
Entire Base Will be Completed In 1939. Press Association—Copyright. London, January 19. The huge Seletar naval dock at Singapore, capable of taking 50,000toh ships, will be ready in July, says Mr Hector Bywater, naval correspondent of the Daily Telegraph. A total of £10,000,000 will have been expended by 1939, when the entire base will be completed, making Seletar the best defended and best equipped naval base east of Suez. Singapore, he adds, may eventually become the headquarters of a new Pacific fleet, including ships provided by ,tlfe Dominions. Neither Britain nor the Dominions can be satisfied with the existing state of the Commonwealth’s Pacific defences. Four or five new batr.lesljips of the most powerful type will be ready for ser-
vice in 1940, releasing the same number of older ships, whose presence at Singapore would be welcomed by the Dominions.
