FITNESS OF VEHICLES
Charge For Inspection By Department Wellington, To-day. Misapprehension which may: have arisen over the clause in the n.e*,v traffic regulations which provides for a charge of 5/- for the inspection of a motor-vehicle by an officer of the Crown w r as cleared up by the Commissioner of Transport, Mr. G. L. Laurenson in an interview. Mr. Lau'renson said the Minister of Transport, Hon. R. Semple, would shortly made a comprehensive statement of the whole position. “In the meantime I feel it should be made clear that w’hile an inspection by a Government inspector will cost the motorist 5/-, it is anticipate/] that practically the whole of the inspections will be carried out by the larger municipalities and approved garages,’’ said Mr. Laurenson. “The charge for these inspections will not exceed 2/6. Where a motorist has a regular contract for the servicing of his car he would naturally get the six-monthly certificate of fitness without any extra cost.” Mr. Laurenson added that the charge of 5/- was not introduced to obtain revenue.
