Received 11.30 a.m. Sy'dne’y, Allen announced the following twelve players from whom (he English team for the second Test, commencing to-day, will be selected' Allen, Barnett, Fagg, Hammond, Leyland, Ames, Hardstaff, Robins, Verity, Sime, Voce, - Fishlock. A surprise was caused by the omission of Worthington who played in the- first Test. Fears that the wicket will not last, may have influenced the English selectors to choose an extra bowler, and Sims, a right-hand spin bowler, may' gain a. place. It is agreed in Sydney that the winning of the toss will be an important factor as the weather here is somewhat unsettled with thunderstorms forecast.

A disastrout start with four wickets down for 41 in the firsit innings was made by Country against Town to-day. Wellington’s bowlers, Parsloe, Tricklebank and Blundell, each of whom got a wicket early established command. Murchison was run out for nine; Betts went at seven; O'Brien for one; Donnell for seven Moloney and Gallichan batting -well thereafter, took the score along and at 12.30 the board showed 70, with Moloney 28 and Gallichan 17.
