NO CABARET.
AT BURGESS PARK. New Plymouth Borough • Council’s Decision. Burgess Park buildings will not be used as a cabaret. This decision was reached by the New Plymouth Borough Council last night following recommendations by the provisional committet set up to control the park. The proposal to lease the buildings for use as a cabaret aroused considerable comment and at .the previous meeting of the council a deputation from the New Plymouth Ministers’ Association asked councillors to find some other way of using the buildings Pending receipt of suggestions from the deputation as to what other profitable use could Im made of the building, the decision to call tenders for the lease was deferred. Several suggestions have been put forward by the Ministers’ Association, but none of these are considered practicable by the council. Accordingly it was decided, last night, to appoint a married couple as custodians. The cost of upkeep, estimated at about £3OO per year, will be borne by the council’s general account.
