FARM LABOUR.
Investigation by Stratford Executive. ■ After discussing the shortage‘‘of farm labour the Stratford' executive of the Farmers’ Union decided to-day to approach the local placement, officer to ascertain the number of men; available and the demand tha,t was being received there. Mr M. Davies said that the problem was due 'to the fact that thousands of farm labourers had been put out of work during the slump and; had taken other avenues of employment, and the men now offering -were of a less suitable type. Mr T. T. Murray, chairman, aaid that there were many men on placement officers’ books who were not suitable to most farmers. ; - Mr H. A. Hunt: They are .untrained. . ; Mr Murray; It is not that. The main trouble is that most of the men available are married and there 19 no arcommodation for them on most farms.
