STRATFORD SHOW.
INCREASED REVENUE. Report Considered By A. & P. Association.
Gate takings and total receipts at the last Stratford A. and P. Association Show were greater ‘than those received last year. At a meeting of the association last night, presided over by Mr A. H. R. Amess, various aspects of the show were reviewed and in several cases recommendations designed -to effect improvements were made.
The total receipts were £1045 7s Id, compared with £lO4l. Ils 8d last year, an increase of £3 16s sd. The receipts in the various departments, with 'those of 1935 in parentheses, were: Gate takings £390 7s (£342); entry fees received. £145, outstanding £l3O, total £275 (£322); luncheon room cash £62 2s (£55 2s 7d); kidsk lunch counter and stall £136 7s 5d (£151); catalogues £7 12s 8d ((£6 10s); weight-guess-ing £24 Is 6d (£l3 14s); privileges £35 (£30); space £ll4 17s 6d (£l2l ss); total £1045 7s Id (£lO4l Ils Sd).
Mr J. Parish commented on the number of entries in the pig classes, which, he said, were only three short of a record. He had come to the conclusion that the pig bacon class would have to be watched carefully or it would break down under its own weight. He recommended that the vacant ground on the northern side of the pavilion be levelled and grassed sc 'that it could be used for penning purposes. The loading banks were invaluable.
There 'were more sheep than usual, the chairman said, and the judging and organisation were excellent. . A report from Mrs R. D. Milne, who was in charge of the kiosk, showed generally satisfactory trading apart from several small points on which recommendations were made. The industrial hall -was a definite improvement and aroused comment, the chairman stated. Mr D. G. Sherson, in charge of the gates, suggested that before 'the next show the association should discuss with Automobile Association officers the advisibility of their controlling parking around the ring. A satisfactory report on the
luncheon rooms was given by Mr J. W, Crowe. A slight decrease in light harness horses and heavy horses was referred to by Mr M. G. Trotter, who said he thought the association would have to consider if the continuation of the light harness horse classes was warranted. He was pleased with the number and quality of entries in th© pony section, which deserved every encouragement. The ring events were outstanding and the morning
programme was disposed of expeditiously', leaving more time for competitions in the afternoon. To obviate the necessity for school children having to be away from •school for the first day’s pony events Mr J. Parish conveyed a suggestion that the school pony events be concentrated on the second day. Mr Trotter pointed out that 'the second day's programme was already full but said he would bear the point in mind. As cattle section chairman, Mr S. Gadsby’ mentioned the advisability of cutting the fodder paddocks into smaller areas I Mr H. C. Johnson urged that judging of the breed •championships should be done by one judge. The grade section was particularly good, Mr F. Kirkwood commented.
