Dust strikes bird's nest pool again
For the second time in four weeks G. Dust has collected a keenly sought bird's nest at the Taupo Golf Club. He shared a pool late last month and, on Sunday, was the sole winner of a pool of 50 balls with birdies at the 6th and 16th holes on the old course. Dust was also among the winners in the daily twos' competition in which he was joined by A. Forster, B. Peacock (6th old course), M. Vanner (16th old course), T. Halverson (3rd new course), P. Munroe and K. Braddock (18th new course). Sunday' s club event, a four-ball best ball par on the old course, was won by D. J. Reid and H. Mullins, 9 up. Four players, all on 38 points, shared the professional's stableford competition — J. Mather, A. Dance, R. Jyjclver and J. Marama.
An A and B grade par event was held on the new course on Saturday, with J. Ballantyne, 3 up, winning the top section on the count-back from J. Simon. G. Thurston, 4 up, topped the second division. Thurston, 41, headed the professional's stableford competition from Simon 40 and J. Heaslip 39. Twos, all on the new course, were scored by G. Barlow 3rd, J. Stevens 6th, Thurston 12th, R. Weston and R. Arneil 18th. * * * Taupo will defend the Smythe Trophy at Tokoroa next Sunday over 27 holes' stableford play against the Tokoroa, Mangakino and Putaruru clubs.
