Missing utility, boat found at cliff base
A missing , utility and boat worth $5500 were recovered from 300 feet down a . bank near the Tarawera Tavern, on the Napier-Taupo Road, on Thursday. The 1970 model utility, a 16ft fibreglass boat and 75 h.p. outboard motor, and the trailer carrying it, were left parked in a roadside area half a mile north of the tavern by two Welling-
ton hunters at 1 p.m. on Monday. When they returned shortly before mid-day on Tuesday, the vehicles had gone. Three Gisborne anglers looking for a fishing spot found the wrecked utility. It appeared to have rolled and flipped end to end many times during its tumble down the steep bank. The boat had broken
loose from the trailer and landed about 60 feet further down in scrub. Police and Transport . Department officers recovered the vehicles using a winch. They searched the bush covered hillside in case someone had been thrown out of the utility during the plunge down the bank. They are satisfied no-one was in the car when it went over.
