Farmers granted drought relief
Drought relief has been granted by the Government to farmers in the Taupo district. The farm advisory officer, Mr R. B. Gordon, said farmers were glad to hear that relief measures had been granted but it had been a long time coming. "They are pleased they have been acknowledged at last by the Government but it has taken a while for them to be advised," he said. The relief would be a great help to Taupo farmers. Relief measures will cover freights, the cartage of hay, grains or meals, the return cartage of stock up to a maximum of 100 miles, and tax relief under section 103A of the Land and Income Tax Bill. "In the event of the sale of capital stock farmers will not be assessed for income tax purposes for up to two years," said Mr Gordon.
