Fewer births, more deaths
Births registered in the Taupo Magistrate's Court last year showed a decrease by 90 on the comparative figure for 1969. In 1970 343 births were recorded, against 433 in 1969. Deaths, however, increased to 54 from the 1969 figure of 48. Registry office marriages were almost doubled — 33 against 17 in 1969 — while the total of marriage notices issued by the court also showed an increase, with 107 in 1970 against 79 in 1969.
