HAWKE CUP CHALLENGE

Bay of Plenty won the right to a direct challenge for the Hawke Cup next season by beating Thames Valley by 70 runs on the first innings in a representative cricket match at Tauranga at the weekend. Bay of Plenty batted first and scored 181 to which Thames Valley replied with 111. Bay declared its second innings closed at 213 for eight leaving the Valley 190 minutes in which to score 284 for victory.
