ST. JOHN ACTIVE AT TURANGI
The enthusiastic and efficient work of the St John Ambulance in the Turangi district was paid tribute at the annual general meeting of the Tu wharetoa St John Ambulance Association. On every ambulance journey qualified drivers and a woman attendant aCcompanied a patient. Ambulances transported patients to Taumarunui Hospital as well as Rotorua, Tauranga, Hamilton, Wanganui, Palmerston North and Wellington. Twenty-five patients were flown out of Turangi by air ambulance, seven of them during October. The busiest month for Turangi ambulances was February, when 30 patients
were carried a distance of 3876 miles. The ambulances travelled distances of 34,399 miles and carried 291 patients to various hospitals during the period from October, 1969 to September, 1970. During the year classes were held in the following subjects and attendances were good: initial first aid, higher first aid; initial home nursing and advanced first aid. Percentage passes achieved were: initial first aid: 92 per cent; higher first aid: 94 per cent; initial home nursing: 100 per cent, advanced first aid: 100 per cent. Officers elected were: patron. Wrathall; vice-presidents, Messrs S. Pritchard and J. Rogers; committee Mesdames K. Wikaira, N. Potae, B. Naylor, M. Kereopa and Messrs G. Holden, W. Alker, R. Crowther, P. McLaughlin, J. Couchman, W. Auckett and T. Potae; secretary, Mrs M. McAnulty; delegate, Mr J. Couchman.
