Rubber Firms merge
The green light has been given for a union between two of the world's best-known rubber companies. The Anglo-Italian union recommended to shareholders by the boards of Dunlop and Pirelli should lead to the formation of the world's third biggest rubber group, with combined turnover of nearly $900 million. The union should be effective from January 1, 1971, with Dunlop and Pirelli equal partners. The tie-up will mean a bigger stake for Dunlop in Italy, Southern Europe and Latin America; for Pirelli a grpater share in the United Kingdom, North America, Africa, Asia and Australasia. Although the operations of the union will be regarded as a single business the companies well-known names and trade marks will continue and distinctive products will be offered under their own brand names.
