ROAD MAINTENANCE IS

ACCEPTED

The Taupo County Council on Tuesday adopted recommendations to accept the powers of control and maintenance of power project access roads and others in the county formed in the process of land development. The power project roads are those to Waipapa and Ohakuri power stations. Conditions were imposed. The council will require a subsidy rate of 3 to 1 from

the National Roads Board on both roads with provision in the board's estimates for the two works within the maintenance item. Agreement on other specified financial arrangements with the NZED and Ministry of Works will also be required. The roads will be taken over retrospectively from April 1, 1965. Other roads concerned are Whakapapa, Waihora, Otake and Pokuru, and the Sandel Road Bridge. The council will accept these for control and maintenance upon completion of the MoW maintenance period. A request that the council take over control and maintenance of part of Kaahu Road was not approved because of insufficient information from the Ministry of Works resident engineer, Rotorua, on plans for a deviation. The matter will be referred back for further information.
