Get Honours
Nearly 100 firemen, wives and friends were present at the Taupo Fire Brigade social and presentation night, on Saturday. Two. ex-members of the brigade, who were held in the highest esteem by their fellow firemen and the people of Taupo, were awarded life honorary medals by the chairman of the Taupo Urban Fire Authority, Mr I. T. Logan. They, were ex-Chief Fire Officer, B. S. Armstrong and ex-Sub Officer, J. F. O'Toole. Oth er certificates and diplomas were presented by the Mayor, Mr J. E. Story, Chief Fire Officer, Mr S. K. Christensen and the president of the New Zealand Fire Brigades' Institute, Mr J. Buckland.
Life honorary medals: ExChief Fire Officer, B. S. Armstrong, ex-Sub Officer, J. F. O'Toole (and certificate). Honorary membership certificates: Mr and Mrs Groves, Miss K. Hoare, Misses Beattie and Clarke, N. Karaitana, E. Pardon, R. Manning (not present). Service honours: Fireman L. McCanley (three-year certificate), Fireman N. Wilson (five-year medal), Fireman T. Armstrong (five-year medal), Sub Officer O. Twist (two-year bar; seven-year service), Fireman J. Free (two-year bar; seven-year service), Fireman J. Dunn (twoyear bar; nine-year service), Chief Fire Officer, S. K. Christensen (two-year bar; 11-year service). New Zealand Fire Brigade Institute diplomas: Deputy Chief Fire Officer, M. Flowers (Associate Membership), Sub Station Officer, R. Dryden (Associate Membership), Station Officer, D. Turketo (Full Membership), Sub Officer, O. Twist (Full Membership).
