Unfortunate Associations
The term "collective farming" had unfortunate historical associations, Mr P. Amos, Labour Member for Manurewa told a meeting in Taupo on Tuesday. He was answering a questioner who asked if the official Labour Party attitude toward farming would not be toward collective units rather than individual farms. "The idea of co-operative ownership has been discussed at some length," Mr Amos said. "I am inclined to agree with it, but we must take cognisance of the very ingrained idea New Zealand Ifarmers and potential farmers have of owning their own piece of dirt. "It would take a long time before we could get around to that sort of thing, but multiple ownership could be the best answer to the problem of increased production," he said.
