Caretaking And Cleaning Takes 100 Hours At College
Oue hundred hours a week are allowed by the Education Board for caretaking and cleaning of Taupo-nui-a-Tia College, and 40 hours for grounds maintenance, the principal, Mr F. N. Tritt, reported to the College Board of Governors on Tuesday night. There are 22 permanent classrooms, four prefabricated rooms, an administrative block and assembly hall. The grounds consist of 15 acres. Mr Tritt said that caretaking and cleaning time would probably be increased to 120 hours a week. This would allow for the employment of a full-time caretaker. A full-time groundsman was already employed. Three or four parttime cleaners could each work about 15 hours a week. With the increase in the number of buildings, the work of the caretaker would be more of a supervisory nature and it was thought
that he should be given as much responsibility as possible including that for minor repairs. During the past few months considerable use had been made of women cleaners on part-time duties and the necessary work had been done. Heavier work was also being carried out under satisfactory arrangements at the present time. The board discussed the appointment of a caretaker, but decided to hold the matter in abeyance.
