D.B. Get New Licence

The Licencing Control Commission has granted an application by Dominion Breweries, Ltd, to build a .56-bed licenced hotel at Turangi. The application, the only one reeeived, was for the eonstruction of an hotel in three stages. The first stage, of 6650 square feet and 20 beds, is to be completed in the second half of 1966, the second of 3350 square feet and 16 beds to be completed in 1968 and a third stage, of 4000 square feet and 20 beds, to be finished in 1970. A further stage, the decision says, to take plaee when the population of Turangi falls "sufficiently, involves the rearrangement of bar room space which will then be surplus to requirements. The commission agreed to the proposal for eonstruction in stages, but considered the stages should keep pace with the expansion of population as expected by the Ministry of Works. The application was granted on the condition that eonstruction of the second stage was completed not later than September 30, 1967, and the third by April 30, 1968.
