More Work At Turangi
Any fine spells of weather have called for a ustei> up" in work at the Tongariro power development seheme at Turangi. Every third Saturday out of four is part of the working week. Many married men at present oceupy single quarters in the camp. "All the overtime does not compensate for being away from the wife and kids so long," said a Ministry of Works einployee who lives in the single men's camp, but has a family at Mangakino. .About 30 of Turangi's "single men" have homes at Mangakino. Many of the other Ministry of Works employees live at Wairakei and Atiamuri, They travel to and from work daily. This entails two hours of their day being spent in travel. They leave home before six in the morning, not returning to their homes until after six "at night.
