HARD GAME ENDED IN DEFEAT
Wairakei soccer team went down 9^1 to Whakatane, at Whakatane, on Sunday. The team had only 10 men for most of the game because they lost centre half, John Field, who left the field injured after only 15 minutes of play. Whakatane surprised the Wairakei defence by scoring three quiek goals eaiiy in the game but Wairakei kept them out for the rest of the first spell. In the second half, Wairakei started to feel the need of the extra man and toward the later part of the game, goals came in quick rotation for Whakatane. There were a few occas-. ions when Wairakei forwards broke through and it was from one of these breaks that right wing, B. Christie, yyho played well throughout the game, scored. Wairakei will need to field a stronger team when it meets Rangers at Wairakei, next Sunday.
