Death Follows Collision

On Corner

A young Taupo man died in the ambulance which was taking him to Rotorua Public Hospital after two cars were.in collision at the corner of Heu Heu and Kaimanawa Streets, Taupo, at 6.30 p.m. on Saturday night. He was Alexander Broughton, 20, single, who was a passenger in the front seat of a car being driven east along Heu Heu Street by Mr E. W. Smith, Taupo, who received abrasions. Another passenger in the front seat, Mr E. Pake, was not injured. The second car involved in the collision was being driven north up Kaimanawa

Street by Mr E. McEwen, Taupo, who was not injured. His passenger, Mr B, Marshall, Taupo, was thrown out and taken to hospital with a broken collarbone and concussion. It is believed that Mr Broughton received internal injuries when Mr Smith's car rolled 011 to its side and pinned him underneath. The injured were attended by Dr A. R. Martin, who sent them to hospital in the St. John Ambulance.
