FOOD FOR A HUNGRY WORLD

Increased medical knowledge has leiigthened life and made child-bearing safer. But doctors and nurses have brought down the death rate faster than farmers can grovv food to feed the world's population. What the health services have saved, starvation and malnutrition are destroying. More than 1,500,000,000 people — more than half the world's population — suffer from hunger. This ranges from the sheer starvation of famine to the less spectacular, but not less dangerous, hidden hunger of malnutrition. The menace of starvation which today threat.ens hundreds of millions of people

in the developing countries of Asia, Africa and Latin America wfill become more terrible in years to come. Funds are needed to buy tools, seeds, fertilisers, and the materials for dams and wells, to stej) up food production in these countries before it is too late. If they are not freed from hunger soon, there will be famine in these countries within 1 10 years. The Freedom from Hunger Campaign gives New Zealanders a chance to contribute. An appeal for campaign funds will be made by Corso through the whole of New Zealand on, Saturday next.
