JAYCEES TO SEARCH FOR THREE OUTSTANDING MEN
As part of a Dominionwide project being conducted by N.Z. Jaycee Hnc.) in association with Messrs. W.D. & H. O. Wills (New Zealand) Limited, Taupo Jaycees are-to co-operate in the search for young men of high calibre and significant achievement, to be nominated for "Three outstanding young men awards". This project originated 26 years ago in the United States, where it is eonducted annually by Ameriean Jaycees. Long before they became public figures, such men as Richard Nixon, Dr. Thomas Dooley, Pat Boone, Orson Welles and the late President J. F. Kennedy have been among the many disting u i s h e d young Americans to be honoured.
As their contribution to the New Zealand project, Taupo Jaycees, with the help of other community organisations, will bring | forward young men between | 18 and 40 years, whose qualities and achievments are worthy of recognition. "It is immaterial," said the president, Mr R. Cranswick, "whether or not they are connected with the Jaycee movement." These young men will come j from every walk of life. They will have made their mark in any trade, professional, academic or sporting field and have given some form of volun- j tary service to the com- ! munity. Nominations! opened on May 1 and will be ! received at Jaycee headquarters untill the closing date, June 30. "Nominees from our area will be selected after careful consideration by a local judging panel," continued Mr Cranswick. The nominees . selected by the. local panel will then be assessed by the national judging panel in Wellington during September, who will select the three award winners. These three award winners will be presented at the Jaycee national convention, which is to be held in Invercargill during October. "We look forward to the support of all citzens in the search for our most outstanding young men," said Mr Cranswick. "It is our hope that the achievments of the award winners will prove an inspiration for all young men," he concluded.
