HOSPITAL FOR TURANGI

Arrangements have been made between the Waikato Hospital Board, Department of Health and Ministry of Works for a maternity hospital of between eight and 10 beds to be provided at Turangi. The Taupo member of the board, Mr J. W. Birnie, said MoW would establish the hospital. He said it would be of a temporary nature but, through the board, a permanent hospital would be provided as soon as the population trends in the district were known. A plan of the hospital has already been submitted to the Department of Health. Mr Birnie said that MoW has agreed to provide an ambulance station building and casualty holding beds at Turangi.
