HOBDELL MAY MAKE REP

TEAM

The plucky blonde-hair-ed Taupo wiuger, Peter Hobdell, may have won a place in the Hawke's Bay B representative side after his display in the Possihles v. Probables match at Hastings yesterday. Possihles won the rather featureless match 9 — 3, after leading 6 — 0 at half-time. Hobdell and an opposing winger, Florus Duvenage were the only two players to stand out in the trial Both became the spectators heroes after their displaye of intelligent and determined running. Although Hobdell lacks the experience the two Hawke's Bay selectors Messrs Colin Le Quesne and John Buxton, could not help noticing him. He was always there when wanted and his progressive play was a feature of the match.

In a good side with, a well-skilled centre, HobdeP could easily show his class. Hobdell was warmly applauded late in the second half after he stopped a superb run by Duvenage. Duvenage had penetrated deep into the Possihles' half and Hobdell had to leave his own wing to cover a | kick which placed Duven age in a scoring position. The other two Taupo players in the trial produc j ed disappointing form. T. Ruru did not feed the j ball on from the centre

position and cost his side valuable . scoring opportunities. He cut through neatly and then undid all his good work by dying with the ball. Hooker L. Draper, never reached the form required He was slow into rucks and his lineout work was somewhat sloppy. Even his form as a hooker was off. He won the ball only three or four times and then the service was slow. Neither the Pos sibles nor Probables teams produced Rugby of a high standard. However, this could be accounted for by the play ers striving for individua, honours, rather than at tempting to help other team members. For Possibles, Frank Jones scored the team's only try and centre D. Leech, goaled from two penalties. M Cunningham scored a try for Probables. —
