GOLF CLUB HAS PLAN FOR TREE-PLANTING

Several matters of interest to members of Taupo Golf Club were raised at the first special general meeting for 1957 at the cluMiouse . on Monday, July 15. The attendance was very good. The advisability of altering the types of membership, in view of tlie changing conditions in the district, was explained by the president the club captain and the secretary. A full account of the work being done on the course and the work proposed for tlie rest of this year was given by Mr Woodward, who paid tribute to the work of the greenkeeper, Mr C. T wech. The niain job to be com- | pleted in the near fiiture was the watering scheme. Generous Donation The programme of tree-planting for the current year was explained to members, who were asked- to be prepared to give some time to the project during August. The patron, Mr L. Stephenson, generously provided £25 to buy trees. Tributes were paid to tree-planting committees of the past, and tlie hope expressed tliat the work would be con- ! tinued. The work on tlie clubliouse was reviewed. It was expected the job would be finished witliin tlie next fortnight. Catering Setup M i' G. Barlow raised tlie question of catering. He said he felt that too much work and expense was being imposed on some members. Mr A. Graham supported him. The result was that they were given the task of adjusting the matter by collecting donations from those members not directly involved with the actual catering. It was suggested that a fan should be insfalled in the eastern wa 11 of tlie clubhouse, but action was deferred till tlie new lieafers had been thoroughly tested. The meeting expressed its appreciation of ari offer made by Mr I. Potts to donate £12 12s toward the cost. The mens' cliampiohship will be played in three grades this year.
