COUNCIL TO CONSIDER APPOINTING CIVIL ENGINEER
During the discussion of general business at the Borough Council meeting on Wednesday evening, January 18, the matter of the appointment of a civil engineer was brought up by ^Cr J. M. Stanley. There was a f ull attendance of councillors with the exception of Cr K. E. Young, whose apology for absence was accepted. A lengthy discussion took place, Cr Barton moving and Cr Yedder seconding, that the time for Council business be extended beyond 11.30 p.m. The motion was carried and the meeting did not close until 12.45. Following discussion, Cr Stanley moved, seconded by Cr W. G. Morris, that consideration be given, when the Annual Estimates are submitted for the financial year 1956/57, to the appointment of a civil engineer at a salary of £1200 per annum, with accommodation at £3 per week. On that occasion, following discussion, the Council left the matter to be brought up at a later date.
