MARGARET SWEENEY TO ATTEMPT WORLD RECORD SWIM IN LAKE
Miss Margaret Sweeney is planning an attempt to break the world long distance fresh water swimming record in Lake Taupo this week-end. Present plans are that she will start from the beach at Taupo to-morrow, Saturday, and swim to a mark close to Motuoapa Peninsula and a little south of it, and thence back to Taupo, a total distance of 40 miles. The proposed course has been laid out by Mr L. H. Cheal, surveyor, of Taupo.
Messrs Jack Taylor and Sons' launch Yictory will take the party accompanying Miss Sweeney, which will comprise mainly those who accompanied her when she swam from Stump Bay, near Tokaanu, to Taupo,
on January 30 last year. The attempl will be dependent on cairn weathei prevailing.
