BUSINESSMEN'S ANNUAL MEETING

The annual general meeting of the Taupo Businessmen's Association was held in the War Memorial Hall sup-per-room at 7.30 p.m. on Monday, November 14, the president, Mr W. N. Morris being in the chair. Others present were: — Messrs H. Philpott, I. T. Bogan, W. Davies, F. D. Stretton, G. A. Acres, S. Kilford, J. McDonald, P. Nathoo, M. B. Svensen. Mr M. B. Svensen's resignation of the secretaryship was received with regret, and a resolution of thanks for his past services was recorded. Mr Svensen is to act as secretary pending a permanent appointment. The election of officers for the ensuing year resulted as follows: — President, Mr W. N. Morris; Vicepresident, Mr I. T. Bogan; Committee, Messrs C. S. Currie, Davies, Kilford, G. Marsland, McDonald, Nathoo. Philpott, Stretton and Svensen. Following a discussion on the need for 30 m.p.h. speed limit signs at the southern entrances to the Borough, on the Napier and Turangi Highways respectively, it was decided that a letter be sent to the Borough Council asking if anything was to be done in the matter before the busy holiday season commenced. The matter of parking in Tongariro Street was discussed, and it was decided to write to the Council suggesting that eonsideration be given to the enforcement of a one hour oarking time limit on vehicies on the eastern side of Tongariro Street. It was decided to support an application by Mr P. Nathoo for a temporary licence to enable him to bring fresh vegetables from Hamilton to Taupo, for his shop, in view of the fact that the next sitting of the Transport Authority is not until February and that the holiday season is approaching. A general discussion followed dealj ing with the Association's programme for the year. Opening and closing of shops during the Christmas holiday period was discussed. The usual late night will be observed on the Fridays before Christmas Day and New Year's Day, which fall on Sundays. Arrangements for other days are left to the discretion of individual retailers.
