NO PICTURE LICENCE FOR WAR MEMORIAL HALL
For some time past an application made to the Department of Internal Affairs by the Borough Council for an exhibitor's licence, to enable the Council to exhibit cinemat.opraph films in the War Memorial Hall, hns been under consideration in Wellington. A letter from the Chief Inspector of Films to the Town Clerk, dated October 7, was before the Council meeting on Wednesday, October 19. The letter stated that the investigation required to be held into the Council's application had been completed. After due consideration of all the relevant factors, and in exercise of the powers conferred tipon liim as licensing officer under the Oinematograph Films Regulations, 1937, the Chief Inspector stated that he formally refused to issue the additional licence. The letter was received. There is one exhibitor's licence operating in the Borough, held by Mr J. E. Skeen in respect of the Majestic Theatre.
