COUNTY NOTES
The Taupo County lias lost no time in commencing the task of road improvement and maintenance, and has liad two trucks carting metal from the Tauranga-taupo River to the To-kaanu-Turangi area. A hired grader has been in use, and an outside staff of live, eomprising oue truck driver and four labourers, has been employed. In Tokaanu township Ihe Tokaanu Road, from the Taumarunui State Highway to the Post Ofliee (via the Baths) has been trimmed and lightly metal led. The Wharf Road and
Butcher's Road have had the potholes filled and have been graded. The Tongariro River Road, leaving the highway opposite the turn-off to the Hautu Prison and going downstream, has been patched with metal and graded. The Korohe roads have a'lso been graded. At Turangi, the loop road past the District Nurse's residence has been trimmed 11 p with the grader and has been metal led. Mr G. E. Hickford, County Overseer, states that this initial work is of a temporary nature only, and that it is planned to extend work northward from the southern end of the Lake.
