In the senior championship H. Fearn led the field after the first qualifying round, played on Saturday, August 6. Ile played four under his handlcap to tuni in a 79 and gain a handicap reduction. G. Barlow was oue stroke away on 80. Next best scores wero those of G. Foote and A. Ora hani, both xvi th 83. In the junior championship, 1 • Sutherland and G- Thoinas both played well to return 80. Tliey liold a lead of seven strokes over the rest of the field, headed by J. Barber and J. Woodward 011 93. For the first time the Club is tliis year holding a C grade championship for players 011 20 and above. W. Kilmister, 97, leads in tliis division and is folhnved hy A. Dance, 98, and K. Bjorngaard, 100. The second qualifying round for all tliree cliampionships is to be played to-morrow, Saturday, August .13. Ladies' Golf On Thursday, August 4, the ladies played both rounds of the Naucy MacCormack Memorial foursomes, a competition played throughout New Zealand between August 1 and 15. Com ditions could not have been more conducive to good golf but there were uo o u t s t a n d i n g scores. Mrs Oheal and Mrs Yedder, with 24 strokes, returned not tigures of 79 and 85, 104; Mrs Fearn and Mrs Bennett, 25 strokes, 84 and 83, 107 ; Mrs Foote and Miss Branson, 7 strokes, 79 and 88, 107- : Mrs Barrell and Mrs Hullton, 19 strokes, 79 and 88, 107.
